So…we’re a little behind in summing up last month’s meeting. Our July theme was Keep America Beautiful and inspiration ranged from the melting pot to American songs to specific locales to just the idea of beauty.
We had ones that were red, white & blue and ones that evoked the salty and sweaty parts of life.
Most of the photos were shoddy but the cocktails were delish.
Carla’s Drink: The Beekeeper’s Kiss
5 TBs Laird’s Applejack
3 TBs Thatcher’s Elderflower Liqueur
1 TB Benedictine
1.5 TSs Blackberry Honey
Couple dashes Angostura Bitters
Fill glass with ice. Add all ingredients but the bitters. Stir for 20 - 30 seconds. Strain into chilled glasses and top with a couple dashes of bitters.
Jenn’s Cocktail: From Sea to Shining Sea
Slice 2 (Florida) grapefruits in half and put on baking sheet. Drizzle with honey and place under broiler for 10 - 15min. Let cool and juice grapefruits, straining the juice.
Rim cup with mix of sugar and sea salt (2:1 ratio). In a cup, add ice, 2 oz. grapefruit juice, 1 oz (Oakland) gin, and top with sparkling water.
Sazerac - she did substitute Herbsaint for the Absinthe
Mace’s Cocktail: The Melting Pot
That’s all the recipes folks!

"In the past, if a woman ordered an old-fashioned or a fantastic bourbon neat, it would have seemed gruff. Now it seems powerful and determined. [Societal norms are] changing, and how and what
women drink is following suit. Almost like, ‘Uh-huh, I can do this too. I don’t need orange juice to make this acceptable to my supposedly delicate palate. I am just as strong as any of you.’"

Tuthilltown experimented with vibrations from bass-heavy music to agitate aging whiskey, thus increasing the movement of the liquid against the wood.
The more you know…
